Rediscovery

Marot Collection

Jhordan’s work resurfaced in 2009 when a trunk of unsigned notebooks, sketches and garments was discovered in the estate of French-American collector Élise Marot.

These items—now referred to as the Marot Collection—contained sketches marked only with the initial “JH.” Comparisons with handwriting and references in the Renshaw-Bolton Archive led to the tentative identification of Jhordan as the designer.

Textile techniques found in the garments, such as distinctive structural stitching and fabric shaping methods, were consistent with early Parisian modernist couture, strengthening the attribution.
